We have a 6 month old puppy mix (boxer/beagle is the belief) I buy my puppy “PUPPY BLUE dog food for growth”. However, he is not real fond of it unless I add in a mix in food. I usually mix in a fork full of either “Pedigree Beef Little Champions” or “Beneful Beef Stew”. He will eat every thing in his bowl with the baneful, but only half bowls at a time with the Pedigree. So I have decided to switch to the Beneful for good with his dry dog food.
However, It poured down today and I rushed to get him in his crate. I didn’t grab his food or water and of course his food was soaked. We have a little visitor every night on our deck around 10pm, a Raccoon. So I said to my wife since (Buddy our puppy) Buddy’s’ food is soaked it is probably trashed so I will leave it for the Raccoon to eat. Well I just let him out and he ate Damm near the whole bowl except for a couple of cornels.
So this is my major question…Since we buy him this holistic dog food that is supposed to be one of the best, and use very small amounts of mix ins so he will eat it, and with the food being soaked from the rain, Does it hurt the nutritional value of the expensive dog food, when we use the mix ins or if it becomes waterlogged from the rain? Would he be better served with a softer brand of food and witch one would be the best for him???? Just extremely confused and don’t want to hurt my six month old puppy.

Lack of appetite is one of the general symptoms that indicate that there may be something going on with your dog's health. In some cases it can be due to nausea and that is usually associated with fever and a change in behavior like inactivity or general lethargy. From your description it does not appear that there has been a significant change in behavior. I would not suspect an issue with the food as he has eaten it well in the past. Pro Plan is one of the best diets available in my opnion. If a pet owner calls me with a dog that has not eaten for a day or so without any other changes in behavior like I described above, I don't get too excited. However three days is a little long even though he still seems energetic. I would want to examine him just to make sure there is nothing more serious going on. At least give your Veterinarian a call and discuss the issue.
Hello
I would say to go with softer food in since he's a puppy. But once in a while mix in the hard food with his soft food just so he can also get use to the hard food. But ny suggestion is for now give him soft food.
Also I would leave his food out for a long time. He's a puppy so if he eats ALOT he`'ll most likely wind up with a stomach ache. And leaving it out in the rain isn't good for him. Alot of bugs will go into his food or rats and he could get really sick.
But other than that he's just a picky dog. Lol. But I would most likely change hos food to something natural. Youll probably be seeing that you'll be changing his food alot due to that he doesn't like it. Just try out different foods and see which he likes better. Don't buy any big bags just buy a small bag and see which food he likes better and which ever one he likes then you can buy a bigger bag. But for now in since he's a pup soft food for now. He's a picky dog like my dog is.
I hope I helped. Good luck :)
