I’m 19 and I’ve been in a really tough financial situation. I was driving my boyfriends Ford Explorer to work which is insured but it has bad registration. We can’t register the vehicle because it won’t pass smog due to the check engine light being on. We can’t figure out why either, there’s nothing on the code reader and the truck drives perfectly fine. But I got pulled over and I was given a fix it ticket. The truck is not in my name, but the fix it ticket is. My relationship with my boyfriend is very toxic and I was trying to save my money so that I could get a reliable car and move out but this is a major set back. He’s blaming it all on me and says he can’t help even though I payed his speeding ticket off. Two of them, actually. The only reason why I had to drive his truck is because he blew up the engine in my Toyota and I have no other transportation to get to work which is 45 minutes away. Is there anyway to get around this fix it ticket in California? I can not afford to get this truck fixed, smogged and registered.

Pay the fine and don't drive the car anymore. The DRIVER is legally responsible for the vehicle meeting ALL legal requirements for operating on public roads.
Another snowflake bites the dust.
Take it to court and explain your situation there.
Go to traffic court on your required date with all proof you don't own the vehicle.
