Analyze the extent to which TWO of the following transformed American society in the 1960’s and 1970’s: The Civil Rights movement, the antiwar movement, the women’s movement.
The Civil Rights Movement addressed the unfair “Jim Crow” laws that had been in effect since shortly after the Civil War. These bigoted laws were thrown out on Constitutional grounds and the goals of the Civil War were finally achieved a hundred years after the guns fell silent.
The adults of the 1950 were the survivors of the Great Depression in the 30’s and WW II in the 40’s. They had grown up in poverty, then fought the largest war ever fought on earth up to that date. They were doing well, and enjoying their success. They doted on their children, and swore they would never face the same obstacles they had faced in their youth.
In the early 60’s these kids were starting college. When they got there they found themselves being taught by a bunch of ivory tower professors in love with the utopian theories of Karl Marx. They taught these kids that their parent’s materialistic lifestyle was wrong and evil. What’d they know? They were kids. They bought the professor’s point of view hook, line and sinker. This was the origin of the so-called “counterculture” or “hippie movement.”
As the war in Vietnam heated up the professors organized their students to demonstrate against the American involvement. When the government didn’t immediately pull the troops out the kids did what had always worked with their parents in the past…they threw a temper tantrum.
In a lot of ways the youth-movement of the 60’s was a big party. It was fueled by drugs, free love (sex) and rock ‘n roll. Mommy and daddy paid the bill while the kids protested their parent’s lifestyle. By the early 70’s mommy and daddy were getting tired of paying for the party and all that free love was producing a lot of little babies that needed care and attention. Their allowance cut off, the kids had to grow up and face their responsibilities. They had to get a job and pay for their own “stuff.” They suddenly learned something their idealistic professors had forgot to tell them. When you have to pay for your materialistic stuff yourself, it has value. Their parents had been right all along, and the professor’s wrong. In less then a decade the hippie generation of love turned into the “ME” generation of yuppies.
about 5 years ago, I started to fall into a really depressive episode. At first I thought it was only because I had a bad break from a relationship but the feelings wouldn't go away even after I got a new girlfriend. It was wrecking my life until a point where it was seriously affecting my work and personal life. She was very worried but at the same time couldn't understand why I was still sad and thought that I still couldn't let go of my previous relationship. Being the wonderful person that she is, she put aside her feelings and suggested I go for psychiatric evaluation. Many months later and even more anti-depressants, I was not coming close to being better at all. After doing some research online, I found out the real cause as you described it really makes a lot of sense and purchased this program. The results were simply astonishing. I read this book over three times and put all words in action. Using this method, I've kept my depression at bay ever since. Up to date I'm still living happily with my girlfriend. Depression Free Method?
