A 875 two-stage rocket is traveling at a speed of 5.40×103 with respect to Earth when a pre-designed explosion?

A 875 two-stage rocket is traveling at a speed of 5.40×103 with respect to Earth when a pre-designed explosion separates the rocket into two sections of equal mass that then move at a speed of 2.90×103 relative to each other along the original line of motion.

How much energy was supplied by the explosion? [Hint: What is the change in KE as a result of the explosion?]

I have tried many times to figure this out and I always get it wrong. Help anyone?

Update:

I appologize, it is an 875 kg rocket with a speed of 5400 m/s and the other speed is 2900 m/s
