Do not know current prices, but I would check what type of fuel is used.
The traditional smokeless solid fuel ones that cost about £450 pounds in the 1960's are no longer produced, so it is either oil, gas or off peak electric. I would suggest that deciding which type is best suited for your location is the first thing to consider, and then you will be able to compare the used price with price of a new one of the same type.
Oil price variations are so violent, that this is a very questionable fuel to use in a longlasting system, and gas is not available from mains supply in every location, necessitating a storage tank for LPG which i believe is much more expensive than mains gas. That rather puts the electric storage type at the top of the frame, and they require just a 16 amp outlet which is quite simple to fit in most houses.
Is it powered by oil, gas or solid fuel? We have one that was new built in 1951 and in use everyday since (except for one day each year when it's serviced) It was solid fuel but was converted to oil some years ago. Would find it hard to live without it now. £1,500 seems a good price as a new oil powered one would cost about £6,500, but please get someone who is experienced with AGAs to install it for you. Contact AGA HQ in UK to find your nearest engineer.
Vgood got quoted £7500 for a reconditioned 4 oven aga , probably a lot older than 3 yrs , depending on the model it may take a specialist to install it for you , remember to add this to your budget
Hiya pal! Can I come and live in your kitchen, pleeeease.
I've always wanted an Aga in big farmhouse-style kitchen, but I haven't yet lived in a big enough house!
You could buy a new one for that price.
