Even if I wanted to, I couldn't answer for you, since it's been years since I read the Bierce story, and I've only read a summary of the O. Henry one.
Compare & contrast means what is similar and what is different about the 2 men's situations. Both committed crimes, both were betrayed. Bob was a career criminal out of greed. Peyton was a patriot in his own eyes. How are their reactions similar & how are they different? What is each author trying to say about the 2?
